The location of the new home of the Olsztyn Puppet Theatre (OTL) represents a unique fragment of the contemporary city structure, where cultural, educational, sports, and recreational functions converge. In the immediate vicinity are the Urania Arena, the Planetarium, sports and recreation facilities, and an extensive system of green public spaces, including Central Park, a green passage intersecting the plot, and Janusz Kusociński Park. It is precisely this arrangement that became the starting point for the urban concept. The diverse scale and character of the surrounding development did not suggest a single, obvious direction for shaping the theatre's new home. Therefore, the composition of the design was determined by the landscape and its rich system of green public areas, which define the character of this part of the city. As a consequence of these observations, the project was oriented parallel to the tree-lined passage. Thanks to this, the building does not enclose, cut through, or block the public space, but rather becomes its continuation—the missing piece of the urban puzzle. The adopted positioning of the building has also yielded an additional spatial value. The decision not to subordinate the composition to the street layout means that the volume of the OTL is typically perceived from oblique angles; consequently, it lacks a single dominant façade or a privileged vantage point. From every perspective, the new theatre appears slightly different, surprising, and unpredictable. Its architecture changes as the user moves and the viewing angle shifts, and through this unobvious dynamism, it responds to the complex character of the surrounding urban space.
