about the project

The Hilton Garden Inn hotel project in Szczecin is an example of a thoughtful revitalisation of a historic building, in which a contemporary hotel function has been carefully integrated into an existing, valuable architectural structure. The key objective of our design was to preserve the authentic character of the building while adapting it to current standards of use and accessibility.

The building is located within a dense urban context, at the intersection of Potulicka Street and Victory Square, which naturally predisposes the ground floor to public functions. Retail spaces and the hotel restaurant open directly onto the city, activating the surroundings and strengthening the relationship between the building and the street. The hotel functions here as an integral part of the urban fabric rather than as a closed enclave.

A crucial aspect of the transformation was the reorganisation of the building’s internal structure. The historic layout was adapted to its new function in a clear and logical manner, with a distinct division into hotel areas, service spaces and technical facilities. All floors are accessible to people with disabilities, which constituted one of the key design challenges in the context of a listed historic building.

The internal courtyard - originally considered as a covered space - ultimately retained the form of an open patio, appearing from the upper floors. This decision allowed for the preservation of natural daylight within the interiors and the legibility of the original massing, without introducing elements that might compete with the historic structure. The patio has a technical character and remains a discreet internal element that helps organise the building’s spatial layout.

The project предусматривает full protection and conservation of the architectural details of the façades facing the city’s main public spaces. Historic divisions, ornamentation and the rhythm of the façades have been preserved, and where missing, reconstructed in accordance with their original appearance. As a result, the building retains its identity, while the new hotel function becomes another layer in its history.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Szczecin is a project that balances heritage protection with contemporary functional requirements. The revitalisation does not rely on spectacular transformation, but on a careful and consistent ordering of space and the restoration of the building’s urban significance, with respect for its past.
