about the project
The quarter on Świętojerska Street, behind the Supreme Courts, is a unique place, both because of the tragic history of the Warsaw Ghetto and its vast, now forgotten potential. The institution's origins lie somewhere within it; Professor Budzyński never intended it to be a base, but rather an urban alley leading to the Warsaw Uprising Monument and the Field Cathedral of the Polish Army. Today, however, strollers only happen upon this extraordinary interior with its monumental colonnade.
Revitalizing this area gives the opportunity to restore its life and urban connections. The project envisions the creation of a public square connecting the three institutions and the introduction of a void, a breathing space with a view of the Field Cathedral and the Supreme Court colonnade. The key element is not the buildings themselves, but the space between them.
The narrow front of the plot facing Świętojerska Street forced us search for alternative solutions – the main entrances do not face the street, hence the idea for implementing a square. It is intended to draw passersby in and lead them to the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the seat of the Masovian Voivodeship.
All entrances are of equal importance. The cathedral's towers and weathered columns complete the composition – a monumental yet urban, open, and cohesive composition.

Stable, newly designed buildings gain dynamism on sunny days when the sun plays with their sculpture. They also present different faces depending on the perspective: in sharp focus, they are full and seemingly inaccessible, disciplined only by the drawing of the copper detail. In a broader context, they present their openness and transparency.
The Square of Three Institutions is drawn by light and dynamic frames of austere architectural forms.
