about the project
The building itself grows out of the idea of polyphony, treated not as a poetic metaphor but as a practical principle of composition. Independent structural elements of the form retain their autonomy while simultaneously entering into relationships with one another, interweaving into a single composition. This is an architecture of resonance, whose meaning emerges between seemingly separate elements—in dialogue and in consciously shaped connections.
The rhythm of parallel bands constructs the silhouette of the object as a clear, sequential structure embedded within the city’s panorama. The varied heights and rooflines result both from interior requirements and from a response to context: the course of the avenue, the location of the main square, and the directions of urban flow. The form is neither imposed a priori nor determined solely by program; it arises from the interaction between interior and surroundings. Rhythm becomes a tool of order, while variation becomes a source of poetic exploration in search of appropriate expression.
Light fissures cutting through the mass define transitional spaces between the intensity of the exterior and the concentration within. They illuminate the deeper parts of the building, organize its scale, and impart rhythm to opposing façades. The architecture does not isolate itself from its surroundings, but rather binds them together, emanating calm and harmony.
Polyphony also has a social dimension. The philharmonic hall is not an isolated object, but a place of coexistence—a space where the diverse energies of the city meet the experience of music. Concentration and openness, gravity and intimacy, silence and sound form a single, coherent structure.
In a world full of dissonance, the building does not raise its voice. It responds with proportion, light, and clarity of form. Its strength does not stem from a singular gesture, but from the consistency and harmony of its individual parts. In such resonance, architecture becomes a stable and timeless element of the city’s structure.
Cracow philharmonic
The new philharmonic hall is a spatial response to the idea of music as an art that orders the world. In a place where the city is composed of noisy arteries, incidental landmarks, and infrastructural chaos, architecture seeks harmony—not through iconic contrast, but through the consistent construction of order: rhythm, proportion, and a legible spatial structure.
